- As CEO of Chicanos Por La Causa (CPLC), a statewide community development organization in Arizona, Edmundo Hidalgo is committed to encouraging Hispanics to get vaccinated against influenza each year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends annual flu vaccination for everyone 6 months of age and older, yet vaccination rates for Hispanic Americans, along with high-risk groups, are seriously low, leaving far too many unprotected.1,16 In fact, Hispanics have higher rates of chronic conditions like asthma and diabetes, which may put them at an increased risk for developing serious complications from influenza.1,17
Edmundo wants to set a positive example for others and knows that getting an annual influenza vaccination is an easy step toward building a stronger, healthier Hispanic community. That’s why he has joined the Faces of Influenza campaign – to help raise awareness of the seriousness of influenza and the importance of vaccination.
