- Nancy Cox, PhD
Director, Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention’s National Center for Immunization
and Respiratory Diseases Influenza Division

- Nancy Cox, PhD, always knew that she wanted to pursue a career in science and medicine, but she never dreamed that one day she would be the Chief of the Influenza Division at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In this role she helps make a difference in this country’s fight against seasonal influenza, which, combined with pneumonia, is the nation’s eighth leading cause of death.9
“I implement strong hygiene measures among my staff, such as washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, and staying home when sick to help prevent the spread of influenza,” said Dr. Cox. “But above all else, I know that vaccination is the best way to help prevent the disease and I never miss an opportunity to get myself – or my children and grandchildren – vaccinated each influenza season.”
